Siriporn Kanchana
Bangkok, Thailand
My mother had written her will some years before her health declined, and none of us had looked at it closely since. When I brought it to Phinit Estate, the practitioner read through it properly and raised two points I had not considered — one related to a property she had since sold and another to a grandchild born after the signing date. The written summary they sent afterwards was clear and practical.

As a foreign national with property in both Thailand and the Netherlands, I was genuinely uncertain where to start. The team at Phinit Estate understood the cross-border aspects without me having to explain the basics. The process took longer than a simpler estate would — which was expected — but I was kept informed throughout. Everything was conducted in English, which made a real difference.

There was a disagreement among my siblings about the distribution of our father's business assets. I was not looking for a fight, and the practice here understood that. They helped us reach a position that most of us could accept without ever going anywhere near a courtroom. It took several months, which was longer than I had hoped, but looking back I think it was the right way to handle it.

I had written a will some time ago without any legal advice, and I wanted someone to check whether it actually did what I thought it did. The review was straightforward and the practitioner was honest about a section that was ambiguously worded. They rewrote that part in clear language. Nothing complicated, but exactly what I needed.

Managing my late husband's estate was something I had to do from abroad for the first part of the process. Phinit Estate handled the Bangkok-side coordination and kept me informed by email. There were occasional delays in receiving documents from third parties, but that was not within their control. They were patient and clear throughout.

A question arose about whether my uncle's will was correctly witnessed. The team examined it and explained clearly what the formal requirements are under Thai law and where the document stood against them. We ultimately did not need to take any action, but the clarity was worth the consultation alone. I would not have known how to assess the document myself.

Will Dispute Following a Second Marriage
Inheritance Dispute Counsel · Duration: 4 months
The Situation
The client's father had remarried, and a new will signed shortly before his death left significantly less to the children from the first marriage. Two of the three children believed the document had been signed under pressure and wished to challenge it.
Our Approach
We assessed the circumstances of the will's execution and identified that the witnessing was irregular. Rather than pursuing court proceedings, we facilitated a structured conversation between the parties. The stepmother was receptive to discussion once the legal position was clearly explained.
Outcome
A revised distribution was agreed by all parties without court involvement. The estate was settled within four months of our initial consultation. The client described the outcome as more than they had expected given the circumstances at the start.
"We thought this would end in a court case. It did not, and that is almost entirely because of the way the matter was handled."
Complex Estate with Hong Kong and Thai Assets
Estate Administration · Duration: 11 months
The Situation
The executor, the deceased's eldest daughter, was based in Singapore and unfamiliar with Thai succession procedures. The estate included three Thai properties, a company interest in Bangkok, and two investment accounts held in Hong Kong.
Our Approach
We coordinated the Thai administration while liaising with a Hong Kong practice on the investment accounts. Regular updates were sent to the executor by email. Review meetings were held monthly to confirm priorities and address anything that had arisen.
Outcome
Full administration completed at 11 months — within the timeline estimated at the outset. All assets transferred to the beneficiaries with complete documentation. The executor noted that the process had been considerably less difficult than she had anticipated.
"Managing an estate remotely while keeping four beneficiaries informed could have been a considerable problem. It was not."
Will Review Identifying an Asset Omission
Will Review & Update · Duration: 3 weeks
The Situation
A client in his early seventies brought a will drafted twelve years earlier. He had since acquired a commercial property and opened two new bank accounts, none of which were mentioned in the existing document.
Our Approach
We read the existing will in full, compared it against the client's current asset list, and identified the gaps. We also noted that two of the beneficiaries named had since died, leaving their portions unspecified. A revised document was prepared addressing all of these points.
Outcome
An updated will, correctly executed and covering all current assets and beneficiaries, was completed within three weeks. The client expressed that he had not realised how much had changed since the original document was signed.
"I thought the review would be quick and largely confirm what I already had. That turned out not to be the case, and I am glad I came."
